Automotive Author & Historian
Matt Avery is a veteran automotive journalist, photographer and historian. After stints as a repair technician for Mercedes-Benz and BMW, Matt wrote for the television show, MotorWeek, before joining the Cars.com editorial team as senior video producer. Matt currently works for Mecum Auctions, serving as the Executive Producer of the website, TheTransmission.com.
Matt’s work can also be seen in Muscle Car Review as well as his column in the widely read Classic Recollections feature in the Chicago-based Daily Herald. Matt’s career includes time on the board for the Midwest Automotive Media Association.
His new book, COPO, showcases over 45 world-class collector vehicles processed through GM’s Central Office. Matt’s expansive library of over 400 images, captured specifically for the book, has a permanent home in the archives at the General Motors Heritage Center.
In 2019, his book, COPO, was awarded a Silver Medal by the Automotive Heritage Awards.

Matt is a renown public speaker, bringing his humor & insight around the country to discussions of his journalistic & photographic work as well as Chevy's COPO program. He has hosted seminars at such premier events as the Chevrolet Nationals & spoken at the Daily Herald Cruise Night Summer Events as well as being interviewed on NBCSN.
