AutoWorld Releases limited edition '68 Yenko Camaro & '72 Yenko Stinger Vega

Updated: Jan 27, 2019

It's ridiculously hard to get your hands on rare Yenko cars but thankfully, Autoworld, has made it a whole lot easier to find some that won't fill your garage.....but will perfectly round out an enthusiast's desk or display case. The company has just released a limited edition for their Johnny Lightning series of, not one, but two, uber-rare COPO vehicles. The 1:64 scale die-cast two-pack comes with a 1968 Yenko Super Camaro and a 1972 Yenko Vega Stinger.

Besides their Canonsburg roots, another tie-in between the pair, is that both stunning (full-size) Chevy cars were modeled after real cars photographed and featured in COPO the book. The Rallye Green Camaro, complete with redline tires, matches the stunning example restored by Super Car Workshop. Today, it's still owned by George Edwards, the vehicle's original owner. My original photography on his ride can be seen in Chapter 3, beginning on page 50.

The Man-O-War Red Vega had also recently been restored just prior to my time with it and my camera and is a beautiful example of the 400 Stingers built between 1971 and 1972. My images from the shoot are in Chapter 10, on page 160. From my extensive research on these models, the lil' hatchback tuner is less than one of ten left today in the world.

Both real cars show well and are just gorgeous; true benchmark classics for how these Chevy legends would have looked, sounded and driven when new. They made perfect candidates to be captured in die-cast form. The 1/64 cars have great attention to detail, featuring a metal body and chassis with rubber tires. They retail for $13.99.

If you want to get your hands on some (word to the wise, they'll go quick), head over to AutoWorldStore.com.
